Iolite

Description:

Iolite is a popular gemstone, of the mineral variety cordierite. The colour of a iolite gem is purplish blue and is often compared to a light blue sapphire. The name iolite comes from the Greek word ios, which means violet. The gemstone changes colours depending upon which angle it is viewed from. If the stone is cut properly the gemstone shows its best blue colour through the top, but viewed from another angle the stone may appear colourless.
