Description:
Sardonyx is a banded variety of chalcedony. This mineral has a banded appearance because it is constructed by tiny layers, which are stacked on top of each other. The bands vary in colour from translucent to opaque. The stone itself varies in colour from white to grey along with a few coloured shades. The most common Sardonyx contains flat-banded, white and brownish-red bands. Some sardonyx is natural but much is produced by the staining of agate.
