Price comparison website
www.Insuresupermarket.com found that individuals could make considerable
savings if they include personal items like
jewellery in their
home content insurance package instead of purchasing separate cover from jewellers.
It was revealed that a
diamond engagement ring worth £2,500 would cost £230 to insure from H Samuel, Ernest Jone and Goldsmiths compared to £122.24 from an
online insurance company .
Richard Mason, director at the price comparison website says "Even though
a ring is irreplaceable for its sentimental value, most people would rather avoid having to fork out for a replacement on top of the emotional distress of losing the ring."
Specialist
insurance companies advise people to have jewellery items that are over ten years old to be valued every two years in order to guard against being underinsured. Also it is recommended that receipts are kept for expensive items and photographs taken of unusual pieces.
