Gerald Ratner once famously commented that his jewellery was "total crap" has cause a new furore when he attacked the quality of British goods .
The new row comes after his claim that he moved his business to India because the standard of products produced here were inferior. This resulted in furious British jewellers hitting back at his comments.
The last time he made such comments 15 years ago his chain of jewellery shops, Ratners, went bust.
His latest comments were made when being interviewed about his new online jewellery store called geraldonline.com.
Ratner said of India, "The end product is vastly superior. There is a pride in the product which is hard to find elsewhere."
The British Jewellers Association said, "Comments such as his could be the nail in the coffin for our industry.
"Weve had a touch time over the last few years and we dont need him slurring the quality of our work ."
"We'd like to be able to ignore what he says but if people keep hearing rubbish like that it could be the end for UK manufacturing."
