An unlucky American couple had their jewellery stolen while holidaying in Bath .
It is estimated that the retired couples losses is in the region of £16,000. The items were taken from their hotel room last Sunday according to the police.
Among the stolen items was a 30 inch gold necklace engraved with "Grow old with me, the best is yet to be" and a Victorian style white gold ring set.
The retired couple spent two days in Bath and are offering a reward for information leading to a prosecution.
The couple continued with their holiday and today left the country to return home to Florida.
Det Con Jinny Phipps said: "This jewellery is of great sentimental value to the couple. They are very upset by the theft and extremely anxious to recover the items, especially the pendant necklace and the ring.
"I would especially ask jewellers and antique shops to be on the lookout for these items, some of which are particularly distinctive."
