Swarovski shines in LA

Fri, 23 Feb 2007

The famous crystal jewellery designer Swarovski has a new collection of one-off pieces, Runway Rocks showcasing at the Ace Gallery in Beverley Hills.

The show had a very Hollywood feel about it with specially designed pieces with Los Angeles in mind and was style by Patricia Field, the queen of fashion and Emmy Award winner.

Some of the names to showcase their designs were costumer designer Cate Adair, (Desperate Housewives) who merged jewels with a draping evening gown. Martin Adams, master jeweller to the film industry, put together a show-girl creation going back to the days of 1920s Hollywood. Tarina Tarantino LA-based costume jewellery creator put together a crystal-encrusted urban warrior number. Tae Ashida, Japanese fashion designer created a neck and shoulder ornament adorned with torrents of crystals. Corto Moltedo, designed a crystal American Indian feathered headdress. Betony Vernon, jeweller from Milan dreamt up a deep, curved collar attached to a red crystal studded neck harness. Christopher Kane the most talked about newcomer designed a jewelled fluid bodice with crystal encrusted ring links.

The gallery’s entrance had a black carpet sprinkled with tiny crystals with a giant chandelier overhead. Smokey lighting created a dramatic environment for the catwalk presentation. Guests and designers mingled together where there was a chance to view the designs on a rotating stage afterwards.

The star designers of the show were chosen by Swarovski themselves to create a special collection for the catwalk.

Catwalk jewellery is flourishing and jewellery is still deemed to be the expression of individuality.
