Matthew Stephens Jewellers has been nominated for the UK Jewellery Awards, becoming the first Irish nomination in five years.
The family business based in Limerick, has picked up a nomination for best new store design of the year award category for 2007.
Competition for the Irish business will come in the form of a number of high-profile jewellers from Bond Street, London .
Matthew Ryan, the manager of the Limerick jewellers, said they were delighted to be nominated for the award less than six months after the store had been fully re-furbished.
Matthew Stephens Jewellers was previously a traditional one-level high street store, but now boasts showrooms on three floors and a double-height shop front to the street.
The jewellery shop currently employs 15 members of staff, which can rise to 25 during peak seasons such as pre-Christmas trading, according to Ryan.
The UK Jewellery Awards, which are organised by Retail Jeweller Magazine, will take place in London on Thursday.
