Rare vivid pink diamond set to break sale record

Fri, 07 Aug 2009

A rare pink diamond will be sold in Hong Kong this December by Christie's and the stone is expected to set a world record price.

It isn't just a fancy vivid pink diamond, it is known as the ‘vivid pink' which is an expression of its exceptional colour. The stone, which has been set in a ring by Graff, comes from a private collection. The stone weighs 5.00 carats and Christie's say it is the largest fancy vivid pink potentially flawless diamond to ever be offered for sale at auction .

The ‘vivid pink' is especially prized because it doesn’t show any trace of secondary colour, which is rarely seen in diamonds and only one in one hundred thousand diamonds has a colour deep enough to qualify as ‘fancy’. In advance of the sale the diamond will be going on a display tour in New York, Singapore, Bangkok, Geneva and Taipei starting in October.
