Jewellery designer launches collection inspired by his own novel

Fri, 10 Jul 2009

A new collection by jewellery designer Alex Monroe, called The Gardener, is to be exhibited at Penhaligon’s Covent Garden from 11th to 18th July 2009.

The jewellery, based on a story of the same name written by Monroe and illustrated by Katharine Nicholls, is about a "solitary, thoughtful little girl" who meets an elderly gardener and is introduced to the "delights and secrets of city gardening".

The Gardener collection is inspired by the natural wonders found in gardens, with pieces including a silver apple locket and a bracelet decorated with dragonfly and butterfly charms . The range will be available online at alexmonroe.com in September. Mr Monroe will recreate his fictional secret garden to showcase the jewellery at Penhaligan’s. He will be discussing his story, jewellery and gardening and The Gardener book will be available alongside the jewellery at the exhibition.

Alex Monroe has been shortlisted for Designer of the Year at the UK Jewellery Awards 2009, which will be held in London on July 16.
