Anyone who is thinking of replacing their jewellery should never throw away their old items but donate them instead to Diabetes UK, says the charity .
Whether it is gold jewellery, broken pocket watches, odd cufflinks, rings that do not fit or other unwanted items, Diabetes UK is accepting such donations in order to raise funds to fight the condition.
Dominic Littlewood, the current co-presenter of the One Show and a one-time participant in Strictly Come Dancing, said that from his experience of having diabetes it is remarkably important for people to do the right thing and help sufferers avoid the increased risks of heart disease and strokes .
Mr Littlewood added: "I would urge everyone who has any unwanted jewellery, whether it is an old necklace or mismatched earrings, to send them to Diabetes UK and help them raise vital funds. It is a simple and easy thing to do but will make all the difference."
