Silver is a precious metal and has been used for jewellery making for many hundreds of years, it is more affordable than yellow gold and platinum, which is why silver wedding rings are a popular choice.
As with gold, pure silver is too soft to be used as it is, so it is mixed with copper and other metals to create sterling silver. This mix makes the silver durable and it also enhances the colour of the metal.
One drawback of silver jewellery, if you can really call it that, is that it does tarnish if now worn regularly. So, if you are not likely to wear silver items regularly it is advisable to store them in a tarnish preventive bag or in a cool, dry place.
